LC Swansea Hunting for Treasure this Half Term

This half term, we are offering families across Swansea the chance to hunt for hidden treasure, as we hide free waterpark passes across the region. The Treasure Hunt is offering a bounty worthy of Blackbeard himself, with 5 pieces of treasure to be found all across Swansea Bay.

Clues to find the treasure will be uploaded every morning onto the LC's Facebook page and can be located using the free Geocaching app available on smartphones.  The treasure itself is a pass for a family of four to the LC waterpark.

Emma Allchurch, LC Centre Manager said: "It can be difficult as well as expensive to keep kids amused during half term so here at the LC, we decided to put on a Treasure Hunt to get people out and about to enjoy the walks our city has to offer, with a potential prize at the end, all for free. We are hoping that the LC Treasure Hunt will keep the whole family entertained come rain or shine this half term.

"And fear not matey’s if you are not one of the lucky five winners, we have some great half term activities at the LC such as our interactive play area, climbing wall, as well as our wave pool and board rider."

The first prize will be available on Bank Holiday Monday (25thMay).  Stay tuned to the LC’s Facebook page for more information https://www.facebook.com/LCSwansea

Paleo-Diet-feature

Monday 18th May marks the start of our ‘30 Day Clean Eating Challenge’. The aim of this challenge is to promote a healthier and more nutrient dense diet, drawing on the diet of cavemen as inspiration. Therefore, anything you can catch, pick or grow yourself is good daily fuel. Rather than relying heavily on carbohydrate as an energy source, a ‘clean’ diet uses predominantly fats for energy. This means you’ll feel more energised throughout the day rather than having peaks and troughs.

We’ve had loads of interest in our challenge from members and staff alike! So we’re all in this together. I am going to be posting regular blog updates of myprogress and how the Gym Team are getting on.

THE IN'S AND OUT'S

What can I eat? paleodietb-579x421

Clean eating is not restrictive; there are many things you can eat. Fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, eggs, nuts and seeds are all brilliant fuel sources you can eat during the 30 days. These are all foods that help build and repair muscle and provide vitamins and minerals that are proven to decrease the likelihood of developing degenerative diseases. Simple meals such as chicken salads and homemade beef casseroles are perfect clean eating meals.

What can’t I eat?

Firstly, cavemen would not have had the tools to process foods. Therefore, anything man-made or refined cannot be clean. Secondly, clean eating is all about nutrient dense foods so simple carbohydrates like white potatoes (which release energy a lot faster than sweet potatoes) are not deemed clean. Legumes (peanuts, beans, peas) are also not allowed when eating clean due to their phytic acid content. This acid prevents their nutrients being absorbed efficiently by the body. Finally, cavemen would not have had access to cereal grains or dairy products.

If you’re stuck for ideas for replacements for the above foods - check our notice board outside the spin room for weekly updates or check out our pinterest board

Please keep us updated with how your getting on by tweeting us, facebooking us or popping in to the gym!

We can’t wait to see your before and after photos…

It’s only 30 days - we’ve got this!

From NZ to the LC – The Les Mills Fitness Revolution Gets Swansea Moving

“It is contagious. It has an atmosphere like no other fitness class. It gets results fast.”  les mills logo

Devotees of Bodycombat and Bodyattack will understand the effusive tone in Jaynaya Boyle’s description of the Les Mills fitness method.

It is a revolution in choreographed movement that has reached just about every corner of the globe since the New Zealand Olympian started serving up high intensity group workouts in the 1960s - and Swansea’s LC is now one of the few leisure and fitness centres to offer its exacting classes in South West Wales.

Les Mills Bodyattack and Bodycombat classes have now been added to the LC’s packed programme of classes and fitness.

Janaya says: “Once word gets out about Les Mills classes, people flock to them because they aren’t like any other fitness classes. They are very well choreographed, the music is exciting, and so much scientific research goes into the routines – focusing on high reps using low weights -  that they are  very effective.

The ethos behind Les Mills Body series is that you can clock on at a class anywhere from LA to the LC and you will get the Les Mills experience to a tee – the routines, music and attitude is replicated all across the vast Les Mills network.

That’s not to say it is predictable, says Jaynaya: “Every three months the Les Mills routine are refreshed and updated so it keeps everyone - the instructors and the client - interested and engaged.”

LC General Manager Emma Allchurch said: “Here at the LC we are always looking for ways to expand and to improve what we offer to the people of South Wales and we are delighted to be able to team up with Les Mills International to offer these very popular Bodycombat and Bodyattack classes. I’m looking forward to welcoming our customers to their free Les Mills session. I’m sure it will be the start of a long term love affair for many!”
