Bay Leisure Ltd
Bay Leisure Ltd is an independent not for profit company set up to manage the LC on behalf of the City and County of Swansea. Bay Leisure has a 10 year lease to operate the LC, which started in March 2008.
The company has a board of 11 non-executive directors who are all voluntary. There are 2 council members of the board. The rest of the board is made up of local professionals from different business sectors. The board meets once a month.
Executive Roles
Richard Proctor - Chief Executive
Richard is a sports science graduate who has 20 years experience in the leisure industry in both private and PLC organisations. Richard has worked with Fitness for Industry, Pace Fitness (Australia) and Cannons Health & Fitness. Most recently at David Lloyd Leisure (at the time part of Whitbread PLC) Richard was a General Manager, a Regional Director and then latterly Head of Business Change. He is married with 3 children. Richard says on the LC "At Bay Leisure we are focused on trying to deliver outstanding service and great value for money. We have assembled a great team of people to help us deliver this at the LC. Please let us know any thoughts or ideas you may have as we are always looking to improve our operation"
David Evans – Chief Financial Officer
David is a law graduate who is also a qualified chartered accountant. He began his career with Coopers & Lybrand in London before becoming the Financial Accountant of HTV Plc, covering their media operations throughout Wales and the West. David’s most recent position was as the Finance Director of the Bassetts chain of car dealerships. David says of the LC "Transforming Bay Leisure Ltd (BLL) from a blank piece of paper into a thriving company with a turnover of £4m and over 120 staff has been a huge, but rewarding challenge. My principle objective is to ensure that BLL is run in a financially sound and successful manner". David is married with 2 children.
Anthony Jones - Maintenance Manager
Born some time in the sixties Anthony has always lived in or close to Swansea. Anthony started his working career in the coal mines, as an electrical apprentice in 1979 and left the mining industry in 1988 just before the major pit closures took place. Since then he's worked for companies such as Robert Bosch, Alberto culver, L’Oreal, and Pure Wafer in Swansea, in maintenance / management roles. Anthony says "I started at the LC just before the opening as the Maintenance Manager and have found it to be both a challenging and rewarding position. Anthony is married with 3 daughters one nine, and 5 year old twins. Anthony also has an interest in classic cars. He owns a number of classics mainly from the sixties and seventies era’s, and is currently preparing a 1967 Ford Cortina for racing. Anthony hopes to compete next year.
Ian Hamlet – General Manager
After leaving school with no qualifications at the age of 16 I decided it was about time I got to college and sorted myself out!! After 4 years catching up on my education and the time I wasted, I started work as a part time lifeguard… 23 years ago! I have since worked for Councils, PLC’s and Trusts holding probably every job within a leisure centre at one stage or another. My most recent post was as a General Manager of Concord Sports Centre in Sheffield for one of the biggest Leisure trusts in England, Sheffield International Venues.
I have moved to Swansea with my partner Emma and I am really excited about working at The LC and cementing its reputation as the best leisure centre in Wales.
Management Roles
Corinne Thompson – Health, Fitness & Spa Manager
Corinne has worked in the fitness industry for the last 20 years starting off as a lifeguard and then working aboard cruise ships, sailing around the world as a personal trainer and studio instructor. After then owning her own personal training business she joined David Lloyd Leisure (DLL) where she worked as a gym manager and then went into group management writing and delivering training programmes for 56 DLL clubs.
After leaving DLL Corinne embarked on a round the world trip which involved teaching at a school in Thailand and working for Team Wales during the Commonwealth games. Upon returning from her travels Corinne started work as the Forum (spa, gym pool and crèche) manager for Celtic Manor Resort before joining the LC.
Corinne says of the LC "I was very eager to work on a project where I had input right from the start. Being able to choose the fitness and spa teams as well as having an input on the spa treatment room design was really rewarding". Corinne is also a qualified garden and interior designer and a RYA Skipper.
Emma Allchurch - Front of House Manager
After leaving school at 16 Emma soon made a career for herself with Lloyds Bank Plc. After 21 years service, based in several branches in and around Swansea and a brief spell in London Emma joined the team at the LC for a new challenge. Initially Emma started as Reception team leader and has progressed to Front of House Manager incorporating Reception, Cleaning and the Edge. Emma says of the LC ‘It’s a great place to work. The atmosphere is relaxed and we make sure the customer has as much fun as we do!’ She is married with 2 children.
